Pop Century Resort, one of the Maldives’ most popular tourist destinations, will close at the end of this month, the Maldive government announced on Monday.
The resort will be closed from the end the month of December, the government said in a statement.
The Maldives Tourism Board said it will not be able to keep Pop Century open because of its poor condition.
The resort, which opened in 2000, has been hit by severe flooding and has not been in good shape since its opening.
The government is considering canceling the Maldivian Tourism Act and has already made a series of temporary measures.
The Maldives government is working with the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund on the plan to reopen Pop Century, which has been in Maldiv for more than three decades.
